CMTL Delivers 209-Tonne Ball Mill Shell to Nyanzaga Gold Project — Ahead of Schedule, Zero Damage

The Challenge

The cargo — 11 packages totalling 209,498 kg, with the heaviest single lift at 32.9 tonnes, valued at close to $1 million — could not move through conventional containerized freight. It needed to travel from Metso’s manufacturing facility in Zhejiang, China, to the Nyanzaga Gold Project in Mwanza, Tanzania.

The Solution

CMTL engineered a bespoke multimodal corridor across three countries, managing the complete door-to-door movement for Perseus Mining and operator Sotta Mining Corporation: ocean freight to Mombasa, road transport to Kisumu, a chartered barge crossing on Lake Victoria, and final delivery to a client-nominated jetty near the mine site. The operation required abnormal-load permitting, a mobile weighbridge team, and close coordination with Kenyan and Tanzanian authorities, including TANROADS.

The REsults

Despite the complexity, all 11 units arrived on-site ahead of schedule with zero damage.
